If you’re like me, you probably have a few glass ornaments that are special to you. Maybe it’s a little snowman that was your grandmother’s, or maybe it’s a beautiful ornament that you bought on your honeymoon. Whatever the case may be, you want to make sure they stay in good shape as long as possible. The good news is there are plenty of ways to keep glass ornaments intact for years to come.

Tips for Keeping Your Glass Ornaments Safe and Sound

  • Use a base filler, such as baking soda or cornstarch, before you put the ornament in the box. This helps to keep the ornament from getting scratched and broken during packing and shipping.
  • Put the box on its side so that the top of the box is open when you pack it for shipment. This helps prevent damage from falling off a shelf onto a hard surface (or other decorations).
  • If you want to ship your ornaments in bubble wrap, be sure not to use too much; otherwise they might be crushed by shrinkage during shipping.
  • Use tissue paper between layers of ornaments if there won’t be enough room between them during packing and shipping. This will help prevent scratching between layers of glass and delicate objects like Christmas balls and angel figurines
  • Use Sturdy Boxes with Lids: The best way to store glass ornaments is in sturdy boxes with lids. You can’t always count on finding these boxes at retail stores; they’re available online but they’re often expensive compared with cardboard boxes. If you don’t want to spend money on new boxes, use sturdy ones that are already available in your home (like those used for packing dishes). Just make sure they’re big enough to accommodate all of your fragile items.
  • Put Them in Wrapping Paper: If you have wrapping paper left over from Christmas presents, use this paper as padding between each ornament when storing them away. Wrap each ornament individually so that it won’t come into contact with other objects inside the box.
  • If an ornament breaks off its branch, don’t despair. You can use a wire hanger to fix it back together again. Just straighten out the hook at the top of the hanger and bend it into a “U” shape (or another shape that will fit around your ornament). Then place the pointy end under one side of your ornament and pull up until it’s back in place. You may need to use pliers or another tool to crimp down any sharp edges so they don’t scratch other ornaments on your tree when you hang them back up again.
  • Store your glass ornaments in a safe place: Glass ornaments should be stored in a box or bin with plenty of room between each one, so they don’t bang into each other and break. If you have lots of fragile items that need to be kept together, try wrapping them in tissue paper first and storing them in a bin or box with plenty of room between each item. This will help protect them from bumping into each other and breaking during storage and shipping.
